Well Done Junior Certs!

Annie Condren and Chloe Power who were awarded ten A grades each in their Junior Certificate

Congratulations to our students who received their Junior Certificate results today.  The school community is very proud of your achievements.  A huge amount of our students were awarded A grades in higher level papers and the top performers were as follows:

  • Two students were awarded a perfect 10 A grades
  • Three students were awarded 9 A grades
  • Three students were awarded 8 A grades
  • Six students were awarded 7 A grades

All in all this was, a remarkable set of results.  Many more students achieved multiple A grades.  36 students were awarded three or more A grades at Higher Level.  Our top ten were awarded 85 As between them!

Much concern has been expressed nationally with regard the slipping standards in Maths.  23 of our students achieved an `A` grade in Higher Level Maths - this is 17% of the year group.  Nationally, only 8% of students achieved this result.  Likewise, nearly double the national average achieved an A,B or C grade in Higher Level Maths (80 of our students were awarded an Honour in Maths).

Congratulations and thanks are also due our teachers who worked with our girls for the three years as they prepared for their examinations.  Without their dedication these results would not have been possible.

Leaving Certificate Results

Mr Keher and Ms Gallagher issuing our Leaving Cert results

Our Leaving Cert results were issued amid the excitement and caos of our building programme. With Ms Gallagher and Mr Keher in their hard hats and high visibility jackets the day took on something of a surreal air!  Yet again, we were very proud of the achievements of our Leaving Certificate class of 2011. Just over 17% of our students (nearly one in five) received more than  500 C.A.O. points.  This represents more than double the national average.  Similarly, the number of our students achieving in excess of 550 and in excess of 400 points was more than double the national average.  We were also very proud of our Leaving Certificate Applied class.  55% of the class achieved a Distinction (the highest grade) and this is an incredible three times the national average.  Well done girls!

Miss First Year 2011
This year’s annual “Miss First Year” event took place on Friday the 7th of October. The 6th year pupils delighted the audience with a superhero-themed affair which involved the contestants taking part in such games as “Spot the Bandit in the Crowd”. The seven first year finalists were Susan Dooley, Charlotte Huston, Niamh Cullen, Jemma Hayes, Orla McGovern, Aideen O Connor and Christine Caldbeck. The winner was Orla McGovern who sang and played the guitar. She charmed everybody with a rendition of “Everybody Hurts”. The contestants put on a great show and this year’s event definitely entertained! Well done to all who participated in making this “Miss First Year” show one to be remembered.
