Loreto Cruise To Victory

Wednesday November the 3rd saw the first match in the new Kilkenny School Girls U-14 League. Loreto Kilkenny entertained Scoil Mhuire Johnstown at the Watershed Complex in Kilkenny . Loreto Captain Aoife Prendergast and her Loreto u-14 team cruised to a 7-0 victory over the newcomers Scoil Mhuire Johnstown.

Both teams started strongly but 2 minutes in Jenny Clifford landed a killer blow with a bullet shot into the bottom corner. Closely followed was another from Jenny Clifford after a brilliant set up from Laura Murphy. Jenny’s hatrick came after 17 minutes with a long range shot into the top corner. Johnstown’s captain Niamh Dunne battled valiantly in the centre but an excellent one-two from Rosin Breen and Alex Lawless set Laura Murphy up for the fourth.

Niamh Phelan Stoutly Defends Scoil Mhuire

Johnstown came out, in the second half, all guns blazing with goalie Micheala Walsh and full back Fionnula O’Connell hassling the ever attacking Loreto forwards. The partnership of Laura Greene and Leah Delaney fed quality passes into the forwards and Roisin Breen shot a screamer into the bottom corner from 20 yards out. Following great work up from Jenna Sherwin and Danielle Kenny, Jenny Clifford’s fourth goal came after 53 minutes. Aoife Prendergast moved from the goal to the forward line and dealt the final blow with the 7th goal. Just before the final whistle Johnstown captain Niamh Dunne was a huge loss to the team after receiving a knee injury.

Johnstown had a well rounded team but they couldn’t quite match up with Loreto’s panel including 6 First Year  players such as Aoife Cantwell, Alex Lawless, Megan O’Keefe, Lisa Kehoe, Jennifer Varian, and Niamh Delaney.

Loreto Crush Presentation In Local Derby!

U–14 Match Report

Loreto Kilkenny 8    Presentation Kilkenny 0

Both Presentation and Loreto knew that a strong start to the game was crucial and it was Loreto firing on all cylinders right from the first whistle.

Sarah Kent opened Loreto’s scoring spree and she soon followed with her second after a well worked one – two between herself and Megan Walsh. Sarah also set up the next two goals, both for Laura Murphy which Laura finished with great accuracy.

Before Presentation knew what hit them it was half time and Loreto had a 4 nil lead.

Presentation came out with much more focus after the half with Orlaith Conlon firing balls into the forward line of Jenny O’ Keefe. Pres attacked with vengeance but they couldn’t make the breakthrough with Kirsty Maher and Laura Green protecting the defence. Despite Pres keeper Eimear O’ Donoghue playing a stormer, she couldn’t stop

Laura Murphy launches another Loreto Attack!!

Jenny Clifford from slotting 3 screamers past her. It was Leah Delaney who finished off the show for Loreto with a bullet into the bottom right corner.

Loreto proved too strong for Presentation on this occasion and thoroughly deserve the bragging rights.

Fantastic First Years Battle To Victory!!

Loreto`s First Year soccer team got their chance to showcase their talents against Scoil Aragail Kilkenny this week. Despite playing against players 2nd and 3rd Year them battled bravely throughout.

In Niamh Delaney Loreto have unearthed a very talented Goalkeeper and she is proving to be a formidable barrier.

Niamh was ably assisted in Defence by a very commanding performance from Jennifer Varian, who marshalled and controlled those around her with gret confidence. No nonesense defending from Meagan Hughes also  put Loreto on the front foot.

Loreto midfield of Captain Aoife Cantwell, Megan O`Keefe, Lydia Houston and Meaghan O`Keefe came into the game as it wore on and  started to provide chances for Loreto`s attack of Eimear Shortall and Michaela Delaney. Both strikers interchanged brilliantly before Michaela struck with a great shot to the bottom corner.

Michaela went on to seal a hattrick as Loreto sealed a hard faught 3-0 victory.
