Loreto Top The Table to Advance to Leinster Quarter Final

Ramsgrange Community School  0

                      Loreto Kilkenny              5

Loreto carried on their victorious streak with a 5 – 0 win over Ramsgrange Community School of Duncannon.

The teams started out equally but Loreto broke through with a dangerous corner whipped in by Jenny Clifford which landed in the path of Sarah Kent, who made no mistakes in slotting it in.

It was Ramsgrange next to attack but their shot was saved by the ever-efficient Loreto goalkeeper Niamh Delaney.

Jenny Clifford made a darting run through the Ramsgrange defence and there was nothing the opposing keeper could do to stop the bullet hitting the back of the net.

Loreto’s third goal started out with an excellent cross from winger Laura Murphy of which Jenny Clifford finished with great accuracy.

In the second half Ramsgrange continued to defend the best that they could but nothing could stop Aoife Cantwell’s run followed by a shot, into the bottom right corner, which was by far the goal of the game.

Loreto were now in full control of the game and they finished off the game with a fantastic long range effort from Roisin Breen, which left Loreto 5 – 0 ahead at the final whistle.

This result means Loreto Top the group and now await the draw for the Leinster Quarter Final

Loreto Get off To Winning Ways
Match Report

Despite a laboured start Loreto Kilkenny came out victorious in their 1st league match in the Leinster League against St Mary’s of New Ross.

St Mary’s started strongly with their midfield line feeding balls into Jackie Carr which had the Loreto defence in total disarray. Loreto broke through 1st with a free kick from Roisin Breen landing into the path of Laura Murphy who slotted into the bottom corner with aplomb. St Marys levelled almost straight away as Loreto’s defence and midfield went to sleep. New Ross striker Jackie Carr outran the Loreto defence to slot a clever chip into the top corner. After a frustrating opening 20 minutes. Sub Kirsty Maher came on to provide great leadership and organisation at the back and this provided the stable platform for Loreto to go on the attack. 3 excellent goals followed from Jenny Clifford, Laura Murphy and a superb strike from Roisin Breen.

Stern words at Half time talks from Loreto management led to a much more structured and organised performance in the 2nd half. Laura Greene and Róisin Breen held back from no tackles and added great strength to the heart of the midfield. Goalkeeper Aoife Prendergast made a diving save after a bullet from Mary’s midfielder Niamh Murnock. Shortly after, a one – two from Laura Murphy to Jenny Clifford saw Jenny get her 2nd and left Loreto 5 -1 up. Loreto subs Michaela Delaney and Meghan O’ Keefe left their stamp on the game with a well - worked move, finished off by Michaela.

St Mary’s battled gallantly to the end but the game finished 6 – 1 to Loreto. Bagging the 3 points for the Loreto outfit..

Loreto Leinster U-14 A Champions!!!!
Leinster Final Report Loreto’s quest for U-14 Leinster glory ended in success after a 1-0 victory over Eureka Kells in Newbridge County Kildare. The day started out with a nervous atmosphere but once the team kicked off the nerves never showed. A strong Loreto defence fed great service to the forward line of Jenny Clifford and Laura Murphy. Loreto’s constant attacks troubled the Eureka defence but their Goalkeeper kept them in the game. The highlight was Centre back Kirsty Maher narrowly missing out with a powerful free kick. Both teams came out all guns blazing after the half but found it hard to break the seal of strong defensive play from both sides. Loreto keeper Niamh Delaney had another great game and together with the defence dealt with everything that Eureka threw at them. Loreto’s persistence in the attack paid off when a stunning strike from Roisin Breen ended Eureka’s hopes. With only minutes to go, Loreto held out for the win and captain Laura Greene lifted the Leinster cup for the first time in Loreto’s history. The tough game and narrow gap made victory all the sweeter and Loreto were happy heading home with the trophy and Leinster Champions medals in tow. By Lucy Sherwin TY Soccer Reporter
