On the 19th of December, our 1st year soccer team travelled to Scanlon park to play Coláiste Pobail Osraí on a very wet, cold day. Loreto had a comprehensive win, beating Coláiste Pobail Osraí 9-0.

The game started well for Loreto and it was clear that they were the stronger team from the start. The first goal of the day came from Orlaith O’Connell in the ninth minute, from a super cross from Sophie O’Dwyer. Loreto continued to dominate the game and a magnificent goal from Olivia Nolan, from 70 yards out, lobbed over the head of the keeper, put her team 2-0 in front.

The next goal came in the 22nd minute from Niamh Deely- An unstoppable shot into the right corner. Just before half time Sophie O’Dwyer scored the first of her hatrick, a goal that had been coming since the start of the game. She placed the ball into the corner of the goal, out of reach of the Pobail Scoil goalie.

The second half saw another 5 fantastic goals for Loreto with the next two coming from Sophie O’Dwyer who was on great scoring form all day. The next goal in the 17th minute had a touch of magic about it, as Olivia Nolan managed to score directly from a corner! Olivia had a brilliant match, showing great determination and skill both in defence and attack and is surely a player to watch for the future.

Grace Richardson scored the next goal when she won the ball from her marker and drove on to smack the ball into the back of the net.
The game finished as it started with Loreto never stopping despite having the game clearly won and Brenagh Nugent scoring the final goal of the day with two minutes to go after a great pass from Ciara O’Connor.
All in all it was a fantastic performance from a team who show great promise for the future!
