National Loreto Schools Swimming Gala
On Friday the 7th of December 2012 a team of 27 students travelled to the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown to compete in the National Loreto Schools Swimming Gala.
The team finished in 2nd place overall, narrowly being beaten by Loreto Dalkey.
Kate Walsh came out on top in the over 16 50m butterfly. Thea Harte secured a bronze medal in the under 16 50m breaststroke, and team captain Shauna Scannell won silver in the over 16 50m breaststroke.
In the relay events, Loreto Kilkenny dominated the pool. The junior relay team of Caoimhe Ryan, Thea Harte, Susan Dooley and Meabh Ruane finished 4th overall. Lindsey Dillon, Saoirse Claffey, Rianne Byrne and Sarah Kenrick won themselves bronze medals in the intermediate relay competition. And ateam of Kate Walsh, Mary Pat O’Sullivan, Shauna Scannell and Miriam Holden tor etheir competition apartto secure gold in the over 16 relay category.

Loreto Kilkenny Swimmers are National Champs!

 
The National Inter-Loreto Swimming Gala took place on the 11th of November at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin during November 2011. Students from twelve Loreto schools across the country came to compete in both individual and relay events. At stake was the coveted Cup for the best overall Loreto School in the country.   Loreto Kilkenny came out on top bringing home a haul of 12 medals, 2 plaques and the overall trophy.  In the under 19-age group, five Kilkenny girls made the finals. Roisin Downey won silver in the butterfly, Maeve Doheny came 5th in the breaststroke, Mary Pat O’Sullivan came 5th in the backstroke, Miriam Holden came 6th in the backstroke and Shauna Scannell came 6th in the front crawl.
 
At under 16 level, five Kilkenny competitors made the finals. Kate Walsh won gold in the butterfly, Lyndsey Dillon won silver in the front crawl and Eimear Conroy won bronze in the butterfly. Both Sarah Kenrick and Saoire Claffey came 5th in the breaststroke and backstroke finals respectively.
 
 Making the finals in the under 14 age group was Thea Harte who came 4th in the butterfly, Caoimhe Ryan who came 6th in the butterfly, and Jennifer O’Keeffe who came 6th in the backstroke.
 
Having gained points throughout the day from the top 6 swimmers in the finals, the relay events followed. The relays were worth double points, making the remaining events very exciting.
 
The relay events were the highlight of the day’s competition. Both the under 16 team of Kate Walsh, Lyndsey Dillon, Eimear Conroy and Sarah Kenrick and the under 19 team of Roisin Downey, Mary Pat O’Sullivan, Ciara O’Neill and Shauna Scannell came out on top winning gold in very exciting finishes. These wins contributed to Loreto Kilkenny becoming outright winners. The School were awarded the Cup for Best Overall Loreto School.

Leinster Senior Schools Swimming Championships 2013
On Sunday the 20th of January 2013, 8 students travelled to the Tallaght Community Sports Complex to compete in the Leinster Senior Schools Swimming Championships. There were a total of 89 schools represented in this competition. The girls from Loreto Kilkenny took part in a wide range of events at the gala. Kate Walsh, who was team captain on the day, took home 2 gold medals in the senior 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle events. Thea Harte finished in 5th place overall in the junior 100m breaststroke. The junior relay team of Caoimhe Ryan, Meabh Ruane, Susan Dooley, and Laura Hayes finished 5th in both the 4x50m medley, and the 4x50m freestyle junior relay events. And the senior relay team of Kate Walsh, Eimear Conroy, Rianne Byrne, and Thea Harte won bronze in the senior 4x50m medley, and 4x50m freestyle relay events.
