The St. Vincent De Paul Society in Loreto has been very busy this year. With the ever growing demand of aid from SVP, we have been fundraising, visiting old folk’s homes, and generally raising awareness.
Our society in school meets every Tuesday at lunch time to discuss ideas and plan events. Anyone can come along to the meetings. We had a cake sale in the school to raise much needed funds. All the girls in the Society baked cakes and sold them to other students in the school. This proved very successful and we raised a lot of money. We donated €500 to the various St. Vincent De Paul conferences around Kilkenny city.
Over Christmas we volunteered to wrap presents in McDonagh Junction which was also a great success. We really noticed how generous people were even though Christmas was just around the corner.
More recently we visited the Drakelands nursing home. We danced, sang, and played music to the old people, which they enjoyed greatly. We hope to make more trips before the year is over. Also recently in aid of homeless people, we sat on the corridors of the school with blankets around us during lunch time to raise awareness.
It has been a great year for us and I am really looking forward to next year J
