At last a new beginning

Sr Carmel Gallagher (former Principal), Marita Walton-Lanigan (teacher/Board of Management), Sr Brigid Tunney (Community Leader, Loreto convent & member of BoM), Sarah Dunphy & Sarah Dooley (Head Girls 2011/2012)

Our application to the Department of Education to seek approval for our building programme was first submitted by Sr Carmel in 2000 while the late Helen Renehan had steered the project through the design and planning phase.  So after eleven years of planning and lobbying we were delighted to turn the first sod on 5th July 2011.  This programme involves a complete refurbishment of our existing building as well as a 20,000 square foot extension and will take 15 months to complete.

This is where the extension will go: between our existing building and the Granges Road

This is how our extension will look from the direction of the new medical centre on the Granges Road.

Our flat roofs will be a thing of the past after refurbishment

On 27th of June 2011, the main contractors, McCann Bros, Omagh, arrived.

Before long they were starting to make an impression.  Mary Ward seems to be smiling!

Our heating system is being replaced with a much more energy efficient system.

July 5th, after a busy week, our official ground-breaking ceremony.  Dominic McCann, Marita Walton-Lanigan, Sr Carmel Gallagher, Sr Brigid Tunney, Sarah Dooley, Sarah Dunphy, Colm Keher (Principal), Paul McCann (partially hidden), Martin Hanrahan (Chairman, BoM), Michael Cunningham.  Sr Brigid prayed for the safety of the workers during construction and invoked St. Thomas the patron saint of builders.  Bail o Dhia ar an obair.
