Loreto Rumbek, South Sudan - Courage to Move
In 2003, three Loreto sisters decided to setup a mission in Rumbek, Sudan (see map at bottom of page). They were Dolores O'Connor, Anne Farren and Orla Treacy. They travelled to Sudan in February 2006.
"Women in time will do much " is a popular quote by Mary Ward and is extremely relevant here. The mammoth task faced by the Loreto sisters as they set up a new foundation in the hope of setting up a secondary school for girls in Rumbek.

On the 1 st April 2008, the doors of the new school were opened. Over the weeks 35 students have joined the school. All are boarders. Their school uniform is a green plaid skirt and cream blouse.
On the 25th April 2008, the opening of the school year mass took place. Afterwards, a plaque to mark the coming of the first students to Loreto Rumbek was unveiled.
