An Essential Part of School Life
In Loreto we have an active Parents` Association that meets regularly throughout the year.  The association provides that crucial link between parents and the school, gives members the opportunity to keep abreast of school activities and developments and has a strong social element, allowing parents to meet and share experiences.   The Principal (who gives a report at each meeting), Deputy Principal and Home-School Liaison teacher attend the meetings. The Parents’ Association is the forum for consultation on the development of new policies and engages in fundraising activities that contribute to teaching and learning and student facilities in the school. A report on Board of Management meetings is also circulated and members of the association also attend nationally organised Loreto events.
Early in each academic year, the Parents’ Association hold their A.G.M., to which all parents are invited. We strongly encourage parents to get actively involved in the life of the school and the Parents’ Association gives a great opportunity to do so.

Fundraising 2009/2010

Loreto Fundraising Committee End of Year Report 2009 - 2010

This year has been a very entertaining and busy one for the fundraising committee. We learnt many invaluable lessons on the way and we made record profits for the school.

The Events
Our aim was to have a variety of events with something for everyone. We kept costs and ticket prices to a minimum so that price was not a barrier to attendance – and it seemed to work!

The calendar of events was:

September                      Table Quiz
November                       Bag Packing in Dunnes
February                         Gardening Talk by Rachael Doyle of the Arboretum
April                               Evening with Pauline McLynn in the Set Theatre
April                               Car Boot Sale

The important bit, €€€
Our final profit for the year was (imaginary drum roll here) … a fantastic €7,400!

Spending
The money we raised has been used to:
-       provide a water filter tap for the students so that they have free access to fresh drinking water.
-       Buy a new display cabinet for the library.
-       Pay for benches and landscaping of communal areas outside.

Thank yous...
A BIG “Thank you!” to all on the fundraising committee: Pauline Purcell, Paula McBride, Suzanne Byrne, Sheila Lynch, Brenda Cooper, Jane Gilman, Francis Quigley and Miriam Rice who gave up their time and without whom the events would not have happened.

Thank you to Colm Keher and Michelle who supported us throughout.

Thank you to all the other Parents Association committee members who helped make the events a success.

Thank you to all our sponsors.

Thank you to KCLR who gave us invaluable PR.

And last, but definitely not least, thank you to Barry, the ever present and invaluable school caretaker.

Next year …
We already have a list of events ready to unveil for next year, but we are taking the summer out to mull over our ideas and enjoy the sun!?
